DIMENSIONAL FUND ADVISORS

Taking cues from the firm's three-factor investment model measuring the dimensions of risk, size and financial health, Dimensional Fund CEO envisioned his firm's new corporate headquarters as multi-faceted. Patterning DFA's business approach, the project would use architectural dimensions to promote three primary concepts: Collaboration, Education, and Community.
Overlaying these concepts was an aesthetic inspiration derived from Issey Miyake's "Stair Step Dress". The architectural characteristics of Miyake's design are expressed in folded, floating ceilings, articulated stairs and sweeping curved walls that slice through the space. This artful expression of Dimensional's business model is reinforced by a contemporary art collection that includes the likes of James Turrell and Robert Irwin.
Collaboration between colleagues and clients became a central theme and was achieved via a highly open work environment organized into neighborhoods. Internally connected communal zones, meeting spaces of diverse character and formality and the "Exchange", a full service dining facility, further the collaborative spirit. At the ground level, the dining venue spills onto a deck which overlooks an outdoor amphitheater nestled into the landscape. An interconnecting staircase links every floor providing additional opportunity for clients and staff to intermingle.
This 210,000 square foot facility not only answers to the essential of workplace, it provides abundant amenities and incorporates a technologically advanced trading floor and tiered seminar rooms outfitted with the latest in audio visual equipment.Academics, including renowned economists, serve on DFA's advisory board and are often hosted to present investment seminars that are attended by clients from around the world.
Beyond creating an exceptional work space, DFA's commitment to the community was evident as they made thoughtful decisions about the project earning the project an Austin Green Building certification.
