SACHA & SONS
Singapore
Brief
To take a luxury space within the Mandarin Gallery Mall, Singapore and turn it into a New York deli.
Result
Designed a space that felt like it was handed down from generation to generation. Inspiration was drawn from classic delicatessens like Katz and Russ & Daughters, establishments that had been building on their character throughout generations, giving it that family touch. An assortment of tables and chairs were designed and fabricated then mixed together to give that feeling of items given and passed down. Round, square, marble and timber table tops added to this meshed feel. Heavy patterned fabric was installed on the banquette to give a nostalgic feel. In order to make the service counter the centerpiece, chequerboard flooring combined with handmade aqua blue tiles were installed. Along with vintage pendant lights, chalkboards and mosaic pass-through windows. The client contributed old family photos which were printed onto old timber pieces and mounted onto the wall as a collage, paying homage to Katz with their famous photos.
